WellSpan Health appoints new senior vice president of its East Region

WellSpan Health has appointed James Stuccio to the role of senior vice president for the East Region of the health system. He comes to WellSpan from Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health, where he held various leadership roles.

In this position, Stuccio will serve as a key strategic leader focused on operational excellence and continuous improvement to deliver safe, high quality and personalized care to the region. He will provide executive leadership to WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital, WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital, and WellSpan Philhaven, in partnership with the behavioral health service line. He will also serve as regional leader of various other WellSpan facilities in Lancaster and Lebanon counties, which make up the East Region.

“James already has a deep understanding of our eastern region, and his established, local relationships will serve him well as he partners with physicians, advanced practice providers and teams to drive results,” said Roxanna Gapstur, Ph.D., R.N., President and CEO, WellSpan Health. “His efforts in collaboration with independent practices, employers and community organizations will be key assets as we continue to reimagine healthcare for our eastern region and beyond.”

Stuccio plays an active role in the community and industry, participating with Hospice of Lancaster County, Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce – Community Prosperity Hub, Franklin and Marshall College Student Health Advisory Board, American College of Health Care Executives, Medical Group Management Association, Pennsylvania Medical Society and other organizations.

Prior to joining Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health, Stuccio held healthcare leadership roles with Crozer-Keystone Health Network, OhioHealth, Nemours Children’s Hospital/Jefferson Medical College, and Temple University Hospital. Stuccio assumed his role at WellSpan effective Feb. 27, 2023.

In addition to a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree of business administration, and juris doctorate, Stuccio has completed coursework and certifications from the American College of Healthcare Executives and Harvard Business School, as well as Lean Management Systems Green Belt and Just Culture certifications.
