WellSpan Health announced today that its President and CEO, Roxanna Gapstur, Ph.D., R.N., has once again been recognized on Modern Healthcare's prestigious "100 Most Influential People in Healthcare" list. This marks the third consecutive year Dr. Gapstur has received this national honor, which celebrates health care leaders for their leadership vision and impact on the industry.
Dr. Gapstur has positioned WellSpan as a national leader in transforming health care. Through a disciplined culture of innovation and human-centered design, WellSpan is making care easier for patients, reimagining operational processes, and improving efficiency through early adoption of emerging technologies including artificial intelligence. WellSpan is pioneering co-development and co-creation of new clinical capabilities with technology partners and a comprehensive relationship with General Catalyst’s Health Assurance Transformation Co in several areas including imaging to get patients their results faster, improving access to care through an AI- care assistant Ana, and reducing administrative burden with ambient listening, virtual nursing, and robotics so care teams can refocus on their personal connection with patients. These initiatives underscore WellSpan's dedication to leveraging advanced solutions for exceptional patient care and health outcomes.
Her leadership has been pivotal in driving exceptional quality, safety and experience, positioning WellSpan as a regional leader in value-based care. The health system has achieved robust financial performance, AA bond ratings from Fitch and Moody’s, and is on track for its third consecutive year of high performance with 3,000 aligned providers in its accountable care network. This success was recently highlighted by the National Association of ACOs, which honored WellSpan with its 2025 Excellence Award.
"Roxanna’s leadership reminds us that the future isn’t something we wait for — it’s something we create. At WellSpan, we are proud to stand at the forefront of this movement, reimagining what health and well-being can mean for every person and every community," said Joe Crosswhite, Chair of the WellSpan Board of Directors." Her vision reflects a commitment to transforming health care into something more equitable, innovative and human-centered."
WellSpan Health, a mission-focused nonprofit health system encompassing nine hospitals and more than 250 care locations, has provided $364.7 million in community benefit along with almost $9 billion in economic impact in the past year, as is detailed in the 2025 WellSpan Community Impact Report.
