Earning recognition for its outstanding commitment to medical education, patient care and clinical innovation, WellSpan York Hospital has been named one of the nation’s top teaching hospitals by The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization focused on patient safety. Only 73 hospitals out of nearly 2,400 from across the country earned this distinction.
“This recognition shines a spotlight on our dedication to training the next generation of health care professionals while maintaining the highest standards in patient safety and quality care,” said Dr. Michael Bohrn, vice president and chief academic officer at WellSpan Health. “I am proud to say that this achievement reflects the hard work and passion of our physicians, nurses, faculty and staff, as well as our ongoing investment in advancing medical education and research.”
WellSpan York Hospital’s teaching programs include residencies and fellowships in multiple specialties, hands-on clinical training and a strong partnership with local universities and medical schools. The hospital’s commitment to innovation ensures that students and residents receive the latest in medical education and technology.
“Our teaching hospital status allows us to attract top talent and provide exceptional care to our community,” said Dr. Alyssa Moyer, vice president of WellSpan Health and president of WellSpan York Hospital. “We continue to strive for excellence in every aspect of health care delivery, education and research.”
In addition to the available education opportunities at WellSpan York Hospital, WellSpan Health offers developmental programs associated with behavioral health clinical psychology, clinical pastoral education, an organization-centric administrative fellowship program and various career exploration and development opportunities across the system.
Earlier this year, WellSpan Health and the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University formalized an agreement to establish a second regional campus in York County, set to launch in 2027. This partnership will augment WellSpan’s residency and fellowship programs and create opportunities for innovation, research and clinical trials that benefit patients.
Additionally, WellSpan’s ongoing strategic affiliation with Jersey College, an accredited, post-secondary institution specializing in nursing education, continues to recruit and educate aspiring nursing professionals. Students can earn an associate degree in nursing in as little as two years, with the inaugural class expected to graduate in 2026.
