Impressive turnout for blood donation event honoring York County Police officers

In the wake of the September 17 killings in the line of duty of Det. Sgt. Cody Becker, Det. Isaiah Emenheiser and Det. Mark Baker from Northern York County Regional Police WellSpan’s Blood Donation Center is hosting a weeklong blood drive to honor the lives of the three fallen officers and to support those still recovering.

The drive, which began on Monday, Sept. 29 and runs through Friday, Oct. 3, is now completely booked out. We appreciate the amazing support from community members and expect the blood drive to be record-breaking. It’s a tribute to service, a show of solidarity and a reminder that even in grief, there are ways to give back.

The community is encouraged to continue scheduling donations after the blood drive as well. Every pint donated at WellSpan’s center in York stays in the community, helping neighbors, friends and families in need. That message has resonated with many who want to turn their sorrow into action.

“Blood donation is one of the most direct ways people can help others,” said Steve LaCour, WellSpan’s laboratory supervisor. “Donations take less than an hour and save lives every day, especially during emergencies, and to support the recovery of patients with chronic conditions and those undergoing complex surgeries. The blood drive is a reminder that even in moments of loss, there are ways to lift others up. Through each donation, the legacy of the fallen officers lives on in the lives that are saved and the compassion that is shared.”

Walk-ins are still welcome. Donors can schedule online or by calling the center directly. Our team is prepared to welcome both first-time donors and regular supporters, and they’re hopeful that the turnout will reflect the community’s deep appreciation for those who serve.
