As the baseball season approaches, the York Revolution baseball team brought their energy off the field and into WellSpan Surgery & Rehabilitation Hospital. Players, alongside mascot Downtown, spent time with patients and team members, joining in therapeutic activities that support recovery and highlight the power of movement, motivation and connection.
Patients and visitors also got to interact with York Revolution team members ahead of their opening season after earning the 2025 Atlantic League Professional Baseball (ALPB) Champions title.
“Having the York Revolution players join our patients in therapy activities brought a special kind of energy into the day,” said Haley Smith, recreational therapist at WellSpan Surgery & Rehabilitation Hospital. “Seeing patients smile, laugh and participate alongside the team highlighted how powerful these moments can be. It’s not just about movement – it’s about motivation, connection, normalcy and overall wellbeing.”

Throughout the visit, York Revolution players took part in exercises commonly used by WellSpan team members to help patients rebuild strength, mobility and confidence. The shared experience reinforced an important takeaway for patients preparing to return home: staying active remains a key part of the healing process.

WellSpan Surgery & Rehabilitation Hospital offers a setting uniquely designed to blend therapy with real-world experiences, using both indoor and outdoor spaces to support guided rehabilitation. During the visit, recreational therapists led patients and team members through a variety of engaging activities, including horticulture therapy and surface garden exploration outside, as well as cornhole, basketball, bocce ball and baseball catch – each adapted to meet patients where they are in their recovery journey.
WellSpan remains committed to supporting the communities it serves, including the places where people come together to cheer, celebrate and recharge – like WellSpan Park. These shared spaces play an important role in community wellbeing, just as access to high quality rehabilitation care supports long-term recovery.
As a leader in sports medicine, WellSpan also stands alongside the athletes who inspire our community. WellSpan has been the Official Healthcare Provider of the York Revolution since the team’s founding in 2007 and expanded its role as Official Sports Medicine Provider in 2012.
Beyond professional sports, WellSpan delivers sports medicine services to school districts, colleges and community organizations throughout central Pennsylvania – helping athletes of all ages stay active and safe.
