Why did you choose to be a faculty member? I enjoy the variety of family medicine, from inpatient and outpatient care to obstetrics and teaching. I also find it rewarding to mentor both residents and faculty, helping them grow professionally while navigating the unique challenges and opportunities that come with residency education.

Outside of work I enjoy… spending time with my kids, traveling, hiking, and reading. Whether it’s exploring a new place, hitting a favorite trail, or relaxing with a good book, I love making the most of my time with family.

Outside of work I enjoy… spending time with my husband and four kids, gardening, reading, and party planning.

Why did you choose to be a faculty member? I enjoy working in a collaborative and supportive environment where residents are encouraged to grow, build confidence, and achieve their goals. It is rewarding to be part of a positive team that helps shape the next generation of physicians.

Outside of work I enjoy… traveling, reading, and spending time with my book club. I also enjoy yoga and fitness and value making time for health and wellness. Whether I’m exploring a new place or diving into a great book, I enjoy opportunities to learn, grow, and recharge.

Why did you choose to be a faculty member? Coming from a family of educators and originally pursuing music education, I developed a passion for helping others learn and grow. I’m fascinated by the process of learning and enjoy supporting residents as they gain confidence through challenges. I was especially drawn to the WellSpan Family Medicine Residency because of its outstanding faculty and the opportunity to work alongside exceptional educators and mentors.

Outside of work I enjoy… spending time at the beach, staying active through a variety of outdoor sports and activities, and hanging out with family and friends. Music is also a big part of my life, and I love both listening to it and playing it whenever I get the chance.

Emily Maxwell, MD

Why did you choose to be a faculty member? As a child, I always had a passion for teaching, but as I got older, I also developed an interest in biology and medicine. I spent time throughout high school and college tutoring other students and found it fulfilling to be able to help others improve their knowledge. Fortunately, a career in medicine has allowed me to teach patients, medical students, and residents. Getting the opportunity to teach residents allows me to pass on what I have learned through my training and experience and also allows me to make an impact on the future generation of physicians who will, no doubt, eventually take care of my family and myself.

Outside of work I enjoy… I spend my free time with my family, friends, and fur babies. You can often find me with my children, outside gardening, and tending to my goats and chickens. I also enjoy some good arts and crafts.

Why did you choose to be a faculty member? I love teaching and being involved in all aspects of family medicine. One of the most rewarding parts of the role is watching residents grow throughout their training, and in some cases, seeing them develop from medical students into confident, skilled physicians.

Outside of work I enjoy… spending time with my family, traveling, and staying active through running. I love exploring new places, making memories with the people I care about, and finding reasons to laugh along the way.

Why did you choose to be a faculty member? I am passionate about practicing the full spectrum of Family Medicine, from inpatient and outpatient care to obstetrics and everything in between. I also find great fulfillment in mentoring residents and helping them grow into skilled, compassionate physicians. Having benefited from exceptional mentors throughout my own career, I value the opportunity to support residents as they develop their clinical skills and their own approach to thoughtful, patient-centered care.

Outside of work I enjoy… spending time with my family, especially relaxing on the porch with a good cup of coffee, talking with neighbors, and watching my kids play. I love being outdoors and finding peace in nature whenever I can. Music is also a big part of my life, and I serve as a worship leader at my church while slowly but surely learning to play the piano. I also enjoy a little friendly competition and remain determined that one day I’ll finally earn a long-awaited tennis victory over my wife!

Why did you choose to be a faculty member? I wanted to be faculty because I really enjoy teaching and working with residents as they grow into independent physicians. One of the most rewarding parts of my job is getting to know residents over the course of three years, helping them build confidence, and watching them develop their own style of practicing medicine. I also enjoy being part of a program where faculty can help shape the learning environment and continually improve the residency experience.

Outside of work I enjoy… spending time with my wife and daughters, being outdoors, watching sports, working on projects around the house, and spending time with friends and family.

Why did you choose to be a faculty member? I chose to be a faculty member because I love teaching and helping residents discover all that Family Medicine can be. I enjoy showing learners the broad scope of the specialty, exposing them to new opportunities, and helping them find the path that best fits their goals. Just as importantly, I am passionate about supporting resident well-being and believe that a fulfilling career in medicine starts with caring for yourself as well as your patients.

Outside of work I enjoy… looking for my next adventure! Whether it’s traveling somewhere new, hunting down the best local food, exploring the outdoors, or trying a creative hobby like glassblowing, I love experiences that spark curiosity and fun. When I’m not on the go, you can usually find me with a good book and planning where to explore next.

Why did you choose to be a faculty member? I chose to be a faculty member at the York Hospital Family Medicine because it was the perfect place for me to combine my passions for behavioral health education and high-quality primary care. The intentional integration of behavioral health topics and skills into the curriculum stood out as a way to provide family medicine residents with an opportunity to meaningfully enhance their abilities to provide compassionate, effective biopsychosocial services to the community. This was paired with a genuine, supportive workplace culture that was embodied from day one.

Outside of work I enjoy… spending time with friends and family, playing tabletop and board games, trying new restaurants, and reading books for fun and for learning.

Dr. Delp is a graduate of Haverford College and the Temple University School of Medicine. He completed a family medicine residency at the Maine Medical Center and is board certified in family medicine. Dr. Delp joined the York Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program in 1996 and his practice includes obstetrics.

Hobbies: I constantly seek out connections with my family and friends. I enjoy many active exploits in the outdoors, including running, cycling, swimming, hiking, fly fishing and kayaking. I also enjoy the solitude of the wilderness and a good book.

Dr. Gross, a York County native, is a graduate of Juniata College and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her family medicine residency at Warren Hospital in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, and is board certified in neuromusculoskeletal medicine in addition to osteopathic family medicine.

She completed the faculty development fellowship at University of North Carolina and received her master's degree in medical education from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine.

She works full time as Vice President for Clinical Skills Testing with the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners, overseeing the COMLEX Level 2-PE exam and is onsite one day per week for clinical work with the residency program. She has worked in residency education for more than 15 years, including programs in northeast Pennsylvania and Georgia.

She is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, the American Academy of Osteopathy, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine and the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Family Physicians Society, where she serves on the Board of Trustees. She is also a member of the alumni board for the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM).

Dr. Keenan is the Family Medicine Department chair. He works out of WellSpan Family Medicine – Hayshire office. Dr. Keenan graduated from American University of the Caribbean and completed his family medicine residency at Centra-Lynchburg Family Medicine. Family medicine is his passion because of the ability to connect with patients throughout their lifespan, the diversity of patient experiences and the multitude of settings to provide care.

Interests & hobbies: In my free time, I enjoy camping, hiking, trail running, skiing, fishing and spending time with my wife Megan and three daughters. I am a Baltimore native, so I enjoy traveling to visit my parents and in-laws, eating crabs and watching Ravens football.

Medical school: Georgetown University School of Medicine

Residency: University of Maryland (Family Medicine)

Dr. Lijoi is a graduate of Georgetown University School of Medicine, where he was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed his residency in family medicine at the University of Maryland, where he served as Chief Resident and received the Mead Johnson Award for Excellence in Family Medicine Education.

Dr. Lijoi is board-certified in family medicine and geriatrics and does obstetrics. He served as staff physician in Hyden, Kentucky, with the Public Health Service and then spent seven years in private practice in Hanover, Pennsylvania. On the family medicine faculty since 1995, Dr. Lijoi has served numerous editorial functions for the American Board of Family Medicine, as a Specialist Site Visitor for the Residency Review Committee in Family Medicine and on the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education Final Appeals Board for Family Medicine.

He is a 2003 graduate of the National Institute for Program Director Development and, in 2019, completed the Certificate Program in Narrative Medicine at Columbia University. He directs the narrative medicine curriculum for residents and hosts a monthly institution wide drop-in session.

He has special interests in understanding the patient perspective and writing patient narratives. He is a catechist and lector at St. Joseph Church.

Dr. Nagib received her bachelor’s degree from York College and her medical degree from Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. Dr. Nagib completed her residency training in family medicine at WellSpan York Hospital and is board certified in family medicine.

After working for a number of years caring for patients at WellSpan Hayshire Family Medicine, Dr. Nagib joined the faculty in 2015. She completed a Junior Faculty Development Program at Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in 2019.

Dr. Nagib has special interests in medical missions trips, global health promotion initiatives, human trafficking awareness and medical education.
