Our residency education team is passionate about teaching, as well as pursuing research. The program director has been in place for more than five years and the faculty are all experienced physicians who work closely with residents in a collaborative manner.

Dr. Kamboj is a graduate of Good Samaritan/Penn State Family Medicine Residency program and has been in practice of family medicine since 2010. She relocated from Canada and made Lebanon, Pennsylvania, her home when she came to do residency training in 2007. Her interests include resident teaching, and she enjoys all aspects of family medicine. In spare time, she likes to spend time with family, cook and travel.

Interests: management of chronic problems, preventive medicine, resident and medical student education

Hobbies: cooking, walking, listening to music and connecting with family that is spread across two continents and multiple countries

I am a recent graduate of the Penn State Hershey Family Medicine Residency located in Hershey, PA. I have been practicing Family Medicine since the start of my residency training in 2019. In 2019, I relocated to Central Pa from my hometown of Philadelphia, Pa. Although I enjoy all aspects of Family Medicine; I do have special interests in Women’s Health, Hospital Medicine, and Resident Education.

My interests outside of work duties include planning trips to domestic and international destinations and trying new foods from different cultures.

Dr. Pfaff is a licensed professional counselor in Pennsylvania. She received her PhD in Human Services and master’s in clinical Mental Health Counseling at Walden University. Her primary work includes working with WellSpan as the behavioral science education specialist for the family medicine residency program where she assists in developing the behavioral science curriculum and teaching patient-centered interviewing through direct observations. She also enjoys conducting custody evaluations for the courts and peer-reviewing grants, which lets her dive into the analytical side of her work.

Hobbies: spending time with family, kayaking, hiking, reading, the outdoors, and exploring.

Sheyla is one of the residency program coordinators with WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program. Sheyla is a certified medical assistant. She was born and raised in Puerto Rico.

I joined WellSpan Medical Group as community family physician in 2018. My interest in teaching was piqued when I started precepting residents in the program later that year. I slowly transitioned to a full-time faculty role in 2020 teaching inpatient, outpatient and medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for drug and alcohol addiction to residents and students.

I desired to improve the lives of other people, finding medicine providing ample opportunity to treat patients and their families. I look forward to providing the best evidence-based care possible. Medicine is my second career. In my previous life, I was a pilot. I love to utilize my experience and knowledge regarding aviation safety procedures in the field of patient safety.

Dr. Ryan grew up in a family of professional performing artists, where sharing stories and understanding the human experience was quite fundamental, but injuries and illnesses were avoided at all costs! Dr. Ryan wanted a profession that allowed her to connect with people on an intimate level, help families navigate life's biggest transitions and empower them to make informed choices.

She has always been fascinated by the human body, especially its ability for self-healing, and what can be done to aid that process. She went into medicine with a strong interest in women's health and obstetrics but found family medicine to be the best home for her varied interests and overall preventive approach to care. Dr. Ryan loves that family doctors can deliver babies and continue to care for those children, their parents and grandparents for generations.

Hobbies: supporting and participating in the vibrant performing arts scene in Lancaster County, singing in a local women’s barbershop chorus, performing with an improvisational theatre troupe, cooking, exploring local restaurants, traveling and spending time with her husband, a writing professor

Dr. Goedecker spends a half-day each week seeing patients at Thomas Hart Family Practice Center and has practiced in this location since 2003. Most of his time he spends working with the WellSpan Medical Group supporting the offices and physicians in trying to improve the quality of the care provided across southcentral Pennsylvania. He is also a physician champion for immunizations.

Interests: adult immunizations, office procedures, pediatric immunizations and preventive medicine

Hobbies: spending time with family, gardening, landscaping, running, attending Penn State football games and coaching his son's elementary school basketball team

Dr. Merchant’s family has lived in the Lebanon Valley since 1988. They moved here at the completion of his training. He practiced as an anesthesiologist at the Good Samaritan Hospital for 27 years before retiring for a brief time. He retrained in family medicine, and he is enjoying his second career here in Lebanon as a primary care physician.

Hobbies: spending time with family and friends, playing golf, reading and watching the Red Sox

Dr. Muhiire-Ntaki was born and raised in Uganda. She completed her last year of high school in Malvern, Great Britain, then went to medical school in Prague, Czech Republic. She completed her family medicine residency at Indiana University in Indianapolis before joining the faculty at WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. She has been a faculty member since 2010 and served as Interim Residency Program Director from 2017 to 2018. She has also served in multiple leadership roles in the residency program, including the Site Director for Fourth Street Residency. She enjoys the wide scope that comes with family medicine and especially enjoys obstetrics.

Interests: Leadership development, mentorship, advocacy for physicians

Dr. Botros is a native of the Lebanon, Pennsylvania, area. He graduated from medical school at the University of Medicine and Health Sciences and completed his family medicine residency training from Penn State University. During his time in residency, he published book chapters in skin care and gastroenterology.

He has interests in family medicine care for patients and families, urgent and emergent care and telehealth. He loves innovative care models and leads the medication assisted therapy (MAT) program for drug and alcohol addiction treatment within the residency.

After graduating in 2014, I started a family medicine practice in Manheim, Pennsylvania, under WellSpan with another physician I had trained with in residency. We practiced there for a little over three years, incorporating obstetrics into our practice and learning the joys and challenges of growing a new practice from the ground up.

During this time, I started precepting residents at the Good Samaritan Family Medicine Residency Program and discovered that I really enjoy teaching mixed into my clinical practice. Over the past several years, I have been full-time faculty and in 2020 took over as medical director at our rural office in East Lebanon County (ELCO).

I currently practice strictly outpatient medicine while also seeing patients at a local nursing home in Cornwall, PA. I oversee the geriatrics curriculum as well as the evidence-based medicine (EBM) curriculum at our residency program.

Hobbies: spending time with friends and family and being outdoors, especially in the summer months with our pool, fruit trees and garden

Dr. Gasperack grew up in Massachusetts. He attended Union College in Schenectady, New York, for both a BS in Biology/Sociology and an MBA in Health System Administration. Then, he moved to Biddeford, Maine, to attend the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. After graduation from medical school, he went through the family medicine residency at St. Joseph Medical Center in Reading, Pennsylvania. Dr. Gasperack started at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital in 2006 and has been here ever since. He currently lives in Berks County with his wife and five children.

Hobbies: spending time with family, attending extracurricular activities, going to church (Sacred Heart Parish in West Reading)

I joined the WellSpan Good Samaritan Family Medicine Residency in 2024 after finishing my residency training. My clinical interests include preventative care, social determinants of health, women’s health, prenatal care, inpatient obstetrics, and postpartum care. Overall, I love the continuity of care that family medicine provides and caring for patients throughout all stages of life, including before and during birth. Outside of work I enjoy yoga, hiking, and spending quality time with friends and family.

I grew up in Northeast Pennsylvania. I'm a coalminer's granddaughter. I was a assistant physician for 10 years before attending medical school. I enjoy the patient doctor relationship and having long term relationships with patients. I love to provide holistic care to my patients and teach that to residents and students. I am interested in spiritual aspects of life and integrating that into wellness in medicine. I also love to teach acupuncture, OMM and OPP to residents and students. I frequently precept procedure clinic to utilize some of my skills from my surgery dates. I facilitate Balint groups for residents with my co-facilitator, Janette Kurie who is a retired behaviorist.

My interests include spirituality, social justice, nature, singing, acting, biking, and walking my dog.

Dr Malerich grew up in York County, Pennsylvania, and moved to Philadelphia for medical school, where his training sparked a strong interest in Primary Care, particularly how life experiences and social support influence healthcare access. He completed residency at York Hospital in 2025, with clinical interests in Lifestyle and Addiction Medicine, inpatient care, and POCUS. He is married with three boys and loves spending time outdoors. In his free time, he enjoys specialty coffee, playing the drums, and watching NBA basketball.

A native of State College, I stayed in my hometown for both college and medical school and then left for residency in Lancaster. I am a recent graduate (2025) of the LGH family medicine residency and am very excited to start the next chapter of my journey in Lebanon! I strive to practice full spectrum family medicine with specific interests in reproductive health, gender-affirming care, sports medicine, environmental health, and narrative medicine. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, reading, writing, and watching comedy.
