WellSpan Health Chambersburg Hospital has been named by Becker's Hospital review as one of the 100 great community hospitals in the country. It has become the most comprehensive local healthcare provider and largest employer in Pennsylvania's Franklin County. A testament to its care quality, the hospital was named as one of America's Best Hospitals by Healthgrades and named among the top 1% nationally based on patient mortality and complication rates.
WellSpan Health was also recognized as the first health system in Pennsylvania and one of only three systems in the country to be awarded the Health Equity Accreditation from the National Committee for Quality Assurance, thanks to its culturally and linguistically sensitive services and work in reducing health care disparities. We're only 90 minutes from Baltimore and Washington, D.C., and only 3 hours away from Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Franklin County is in the heart of southcentral Pennsylvania, where you'll find mountains, lakes, and a picturesque countryside coupled with theater, music, skiing, fishing, and an affordable cost of living. With the growth of the patient population and the attrition of retiring or relocating physicians, the community has a deficit in the number of primary care physicians needed to care for them well.
As a resident, you’ll benefit from a program designed for your successful transition to become a board-certified family physician. Our residency program is:
- recruiting for 6 residents per year, with the inaugural class to start July 2025.
- accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
- collaborating with Keystone Health FQHC, our long-standing community health care partner, as an additional training site for our residents.
- based in newly renovated/built Family Medicine office/residency center at both WellSpan Health and Keystone Health FQHC.
- a level 3 patient-centered medical home (PCMH) practice site, recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance.
- affiliated with more than 150 residents and fellows based at WellSpan York Hospital and 21 residents based at WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital.
- determined to holistically review applicants, without barriers of where or when educated or need for visa.
