At about 10 years old, I told my parents I wanted to be a doctor. I think my parents thought it was a phase; what 10-year-old makes career declarations that actually hold true?! I think they started to take me seriously when my favorite TV show was surgery on The Learning Channel. I have always been fascinated by the elegance, science, and mystery of medicine. Add in the social aspect of medicine-getting to know your patients-and this extrovert was in heaven. Fast forward to college, and I discovered the PA profession, which allowed the perfect balance of career and personal life.
Most days I can honestly say that I love my job. I truly enjoy seeing patients of all ages, genders, and backgrounds. I love getting to know a patient's "story." I want to learn what makes a patient unique in both their lives and their healthcare needs. I enjoy Family Medicine because it gives me the opportunity to have many incredible experiences-seeing and treating a patient from the time they are born until they go away to college (and hopefully beyond), treating entire families, and treating multiple generations of the same family. And the best part-not one single day is the same!
Much to the amusement of my family, friends and office staff, I enjoy knitting when I am not working. I find that knitting relaxes me. Plus, I end up with some really awesome sweaters and neck-wear. I also enjoy calligraphy, hand-lettering, journaling, reading, and spending time with my family and friends.
