My interest in medicine started at a young age because of my father. He co-founded a successful practice in Michigan as a specialist in the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation. He worked tirelessly for the well-being of his patients who held him in high esteem for his caring demeanor. As an exemplary role model who I wanted to emulate, my father spurred my interest in medicine. I find helping those in pain to be very rewarding. The WellSpan organization provides the ideal setting and culture in which I can provide services to improve the quality of life for others.
Prior to starting residency, I served in the U.S. Army, which included a yearlong deployment to Ramadi, Iraq. I was the Battalion Surgeon for an infantry regiment. It was a difficult time as our battalion suffered a high casualty rate. My superiors awarded me the Bronze Star Medal for my efforts. It was a humbling experience treating those in pain within our small aid station. Managing pain issues were a constant while deployed and at other duty stations. Through this exposure, my passion for pain management developed. Prior to joining WellSpan, I worked in a large pain management private practice.
I enjoy spending time with my wife, son and daughter. When not involved in family activities, I make time to work out regularly. Finally, I am a devoted fan of all Detroit sport teams, including the Lions who always find new ways to make me put my arms up in disbelief. At this point, all I want from the Lions is one playoff win.
