Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:

After graduating from college (Physics, Chemistry), I worked as an electrical engineer. A few years into that, I started pursuing a PhD in Engineering, but I was disappointed to be working towards a degree that would make me more and more specialized. I was volunteering with my local ambulance corps, and some of the ER doctors recommended I look into medical school. As I got more into medicine, I loved that I could learn and teach and feel I was contributing to my community. And in Family Medicine, I've never felt limited by my specialty.

What I want my patients to know about me:

Pronouns: he/him.
I give thanks every day that I get to do a job I love and that I have the honor of sharing in the life of my patients. I love helping a patient put together a puzzle or understand their health or illness better. But I truly believe that my principal role is that of a teacher, to educate my patients about their options, maximize their health, and treat their diseases.

What I do when I'm not seeing patients:

I'm a husband, a parent, a student, a friend, a swimmer, a gamer, a mathaholic, a brother, a triathlete, a Christian, a cyclist, a traveler, a hiker, a runner, an arts-lover, a (nordic and downhill) skier, a reader, a gardener, a camper, a scrapbooker, a teacher, a water polo player, an ice climber, a clarinetist, a scout leader, an activist, a paddler, and a coach. My favorite song is "Love is a Good Thing" by Sheryl Crow. My favorite statue is in the (beautiful) Wissahickon Gorge in Philadelphia; it's of a Quaker looking over the gorge and on it is inscribed a single word: TOLERANCE.
