Reflecting WellSpan’s commitment to safe, patient-centered care, Healthgrades, a national resource for consumers to find and help review a doctor or hospital, announced today that WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital earned its 2026 Patient Safety Excellence Award. This distinction recognizes the hospital for being in the top 10% of hospitals nationwide for patient safety.

Healthgrades’ annual analysis revealed significant performance gaps between the nation’s highest-and lowest-achieving facilities, making it increasingly important for consumers to seek care at a hospital with top safety ratings. During the 2022-2024 study period, 167,228 preventable safety events occurred among Medicare patients at U.S. hospitals, with four patient safety indicators accounting for nearly 78% of all incidents.

Statistics are based on Healthgrades’ analysis of Medicare Provider Analysis and Review data for years 2022 through 2024 and represent three-year estimates for Medicare patients only with methodology for 2026 available here.

This announcement follows more than 60 specialty care recognitions across six WellSpan hospitals from Healthgrades, earned in October 2025. Additionally, in January 2026, three WellSpan Health hospitals were named to Healthgrades’ America’s Best Hospitals list for 2026. WellSpan York Hospital was named one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for the third consecutive year, placing it among the top 2% of hospitals nationwide for overall clinical performance. WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital and WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital were honored as two of America’s 250 Best Hospitals, placing them in the top 5%.
