Carpal tunnel syndrome typically causes numbness, tingling or a "pins and needles" sensation in your thumb, index, middle and ring fingers. You might notice these symptoms are worse at night or first thing in the morning, sometimes even waking you from sleep.
As the condition progresses, you may experience weakness in your hand, difficulty gripping objects or dropping things unexpectedly. Some people describe a sensation of swelling in their fingers even when no swelling is visible. If you're experiencing these symptoms, it's worth discussing them with your doctor — early treatment can often prevent the condition from worsening.
