Donna Fortson serves as the Senior Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer for WellSpan Health, a role she has held since joining the organization in 2021. With more than 25 years of experience in Revenue Cycle management, Donna has been instrumental in driving transformative growth and operational excellence across WellSpan’s revenue cycle operations.
Under her visionary leadership, the team expanded from 350 to over 2,200 employees through strategic initiatives, organizational restructuring, and acquisitions. Her innovative approach to revenue cycle improvements has delivered exceptional financial results, generating a five-year run rate of $212 million, far surpassing initial budget projections.
Donna’s expertise in strategic negotiations led to the successful re-negotiation of vendor contracts, resulting in $2.4 million in savings. She also championed real-time Medicaid eligibility for uninsured and underinsured populations, positively impacting approvals for 4,468 patients. Further demonstrating her forward-thinking mindset, Donna positioned WellSpan Health as a pilot site for implementing a Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) AI tool, reducing costs and enhancing revenue performance.

A Certified Revenue Cycle Representative, Donna holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management and a Master of Arts in Leadership & Management with a concentration in Healthcare Administration. She is an active member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) and the American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM).
