Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:
I stumbled into the nursing profession by accident during a summer volunteer experience at a local hospital. I quickly learned the impactful role of the nurse to hospitalized patients and their families, where the simplest gestures and kind words can make such a difference in times of crisis. I changed my path from a career as an attorney to one in healthcare, and I believe I landed where I was intended to be. I graduated from a diploma program at Lancaster General Hospital and began my job in the NICU as a 20 year old new graduate nurse. My path to nurse practitioner came after 30 years experience as a NICU nurse at WellSpan York Hospital.
What I want my patients to know about me:
I want the families of my patients to know that I am not just caring for their child but for the family unit. Having a baby in the NICU is an extraordinarily stressful time and the goal of WellSpan Neonatology is to provide excellent clinical care to an ill newborn while actively involving parents in the care of their baby. Both parents and caregivers share the same goal, which is to discharge a healthy baby home to a happy family.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
I love to travel, particularly to warm places with nice beaches. I have two adult daughters, one was recently married, and the other is following her mother's footsteps and pursuing a career in nursing. I am a huge college football fan and attend games at Beaver Stadium every chance I get! WE ARE....
