Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:
I went into medicine because it is both intellectually demanding as well as enjoyable to interact with patients, staff and colleagues. You never achieve perfection at what you do, but you can attempt a degree of mastery in your specific field. Medicine is a constant challenge and learning process. It is most enjoyable when people come back to me feeling better and benefiting from the treatments that I give them.
What I want my patients to know about me:
When I see a patient for the first time, I am trying to gather as much information so that I can offer them the best treatment possible. That may or may not involve my area of particular expertise. I really try to make it my goal to be an advocate for the patient and do what I think is best for their long-term clinical improvement. I do enjoy meeting people and asking them about their personal lives, and by doing that I feel like it gives me a better idea about what motivates them and how I can work to bring some degree of overall benefit to their lives. Plus, I am just interested in the people I meet.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
I have been married for 25 years and have 2 grown children who I love and enjoy spending time with. I enjoy various sports, both participating in and watching. My favorite sports to watch are golf and football. As for hobbies, I am constantly obsessing and improving my golf game. I also jog around the neighborhood when I am short on time and need to get some exercise in. I do enjoy traveling to different parts of this country as well as internationally. I read a lot of books. I also do not mind sitting down and watching TV. We have an old beagle as well, who likes to sleep and eat.
