Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:
I got my first taste of serving others as a volunteer firefighter during high school and later transitioned into becoming an EMT. I worked in a variety of non-medical related jobs and I continued to have a desire to help others. I became a medical assistant and later worked as a phlebotomist while putting myself through nursing school. My first job as a registered nurse was in Critical Care Unit and then I changed gears and entered emergency nursing, which I loved close to 20 years. I later returned to school to earn by BSN followed by my MSN as a family nurse practitioner. I chose the family nurse practitioner track because I love caring for all age groups, but I've always had a special fondness for pediatrics and I did not want to give that up. As a Family Nurse Practitioner, I can care for both pediatrics and adults. I guess you could say I'm still a big kid at heart.
What I want my patients to know about me:
I am a warm friendly person who loves to talk with patients and get to know them. I strive to find a personal connection or common interest with each patient. My goal is to always be honest and to provide the best care possible. When that care requires a higher level of expertise than I can provide, I do not hesitate to refer you to the appropriate healthcare provider. I love that being a family nurse practitioner allows me to combine the best of both worlds: I can stay true to my nursing roots by providing holistic nursing care while simultaneously applying my education and training to treat your unique medical needs.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
I am a family-oriented person. I spend most of my time with my wife, who is a registered nurse, and our three children. We have twin boys and one daughter. My children are involved in sports and music so much of my time is spent shuffling them to and from their various activities. I enjoy going to church, throwing a ball with the kids, bicycling, running, kayaking, martial arts, singing, and watching movies. If I had unlimited time and money, I’d love to travel more and to do missions work with my wife.
