Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:
My mother was a pathologist who was the first woman physician in her family. While growing up, I was very impressed by her dedication to the profession. As a child I missed her presence at home but was glad that she was doing something good for others, which I did not yet fully understand. I decided to accept the challenge of going through medical school and residency because I thought I could make a positive change in other people’s lives. My father had inculcated in me the idea, that you should leave the world a better place by your presence like the great people in history. He used to talk about Washington, Lincoln, Gandhi and other great leaders. He had a wonderful collection of books at home and developed in me a habit of reading biographies of great leaders.
What I want my patients to know about me:
I enjoy meeting new people, talking to them and helping them solve their problems. I have more than 30 years experience in clinical gastroenterology. I am still in contact with my coworkers who worked with me years before, many of whom were also my patients at that time.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
I like to read history, swim, bike and spend time with the family. I like going on hikes in summer and skiing in winter.
