Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:
Growing up I always wanted lo be a veterinarian, however I had no idea how I would pay for college and had a lot of doubts. Those Army recruiters will get you every time! After joining the Army National Guard as a medic, I had the most amazing experience with our "Doc" who was a Physician Assistant. He taught me about the profession, the flexibility, the patient contact, the ability to help others who may be having the worst day of their life. I fell in love with the profession, put in the work, and can truly say I enjoy my career in medicine.
What I want my patients to know about me:
I would like for my patients to feel comfortable with being honest, and not feel that they will be judged. I want them to feel free to interrupt if I am not being clear and comfortable with asking as many questions as they need. I have been in that position where I felt like I was being a bother or couldn't ask questions, and I regret not advocating for my own health. I don't want my patients ever feeling that way.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
We have a small farm with goats, pigs, chickens and ducks, along with a large garden and six dogs. I spend a lot of time with the animals or out in the garden. We have plans to add bees in the future, along with developing part of the property into a food forest. I enjoy spinning fiber from our Angora goats, crocheting, hiking, and meditation.
