Why I chose to pursue a career in medicine:
My desire to help people and make a difference in their lives started me in my nursing career 21 years ago. My first nursing degree was from Penn State Mont Alto in 1997. I completed my BSN from Chamberlain College of Nursing in 2012 and completed my MSN, FNP degree from Widener University this year. While I have a family history of diabetes mellitus Type 2, having my own child diagnosed with DM Type 1 at 10 years old started my desire to help those who have been diagnosed with DM2 and DM1. During my time as a critical care nurse, I found that I had a knack for working with newly diagnosed diabetes patients as well as helping those who had already been diagnosed to understand how this disease impacted their overall health and wellness. I am extremely fortunate to be able to work at my dream job in Endocrinology with an incredible group of physicians, nurse practitioners and office staff.
What I want my patients to know about me:
Franklin County is my home. I grew up in Waynesboro and have extended family located within Franklin County and Washington County, Md. Not having to commute 50 minutes to work is nice, too. I consider it a privilege to care for the people of Franklin County and surrounding areas.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
Fast cars and motorcycles. My husband and I enjoy taking our Harley Davidson touring cycle for a ride as often as we can. I also enjoy watching movies, reading for fun, spending time with my adult children and their spouse/significant other as well as my large extended family. Went on my first vacation this summer in over 10 years to the beach and my husband and I attended the NASCAR experience where we each got to ride along in a stock car at top short track speed. Looking forward to more travel in the future.
