Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:
My mother was an Emergency Room nurse for 40 years, and I grew up knowing I wanted to do something in the medical field. I chose to pursue nursing after helping my sister to health after an unfortunate accident. While in nursing school, I instantly knew that cardiology was my area of interest. For the last 30 years, I have been caring for cardiac patients. The last 17 years have been specifically focused on heart failure patients and advanced heart failure patients.
What I want my patients to know about me:
My goal as a heart failure nurse practitioner is to advocate for my patients. In today's healthcare world, there are so many advances in technology and medications that it can be overwhelming for patients. My top priority is helping patients understand heart failure and how it affects them, teaching them how to take control of the disease, offering all options in treatment and symptom management, and discussing goals of care with patients and families.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
Family is my top priority and I am my children's biggest cheerleader! Whether it is lacrosse, basketball, or theater, you'll find me at every event. My husband and I also enjoy travelling to the Finger Lakes, hiking and walking our two dogs, watching movies or TV series, and grabbing dinner with our friends (especially sushi!). On my "alone days" I love reading a good book while sitting on the beach.
