Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:
I initially graduated with a biochemistry/cell biology degree from Bucknell University and worked in an academic laboratory doing benchtop scientific research. Although I respected the work, I was not happy in my employment because I needed more personal interaction. Most days, it was just me and my test tubes and/or cells. BOO. I decided to switch my career to the something more "hands on" and enrolled in a fast track program to earn my BSN at Thomas Jefferson University. I went on to earn my advanced degree as a nurse practitioner and have never regretted my decision to change careers.
What I want my patients to know about me:
I thrive on personal interaction and love people in general! I enjoy the conversations with each and every one of my patients. I hope that with careful listening and planning, I can make an impact on each patient's overall health. I have been at my current position at WellSpan Pulmonary & Sleep Medicine for over a decade now. We are a large practice; however I think all the providers and ancillary staff here make a pretty good team.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
I enjoy spending time with my husband, who is a landscape architect, as well as our two children, a boy and a girl. We are often found outside hiking, camping, or making the trip to my parents' place in Tioga County so my husband can pursue his hunting. I enjoy reading, although I did a lot more of that before the kids. I also enjoy traveling—there are so many places to see in the world!
