Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:
I believe that relationships have power to create healing, sense of well-being, and purpose in life. I became a therapist so that I could invest in others' lives and create a safe, caring space for clients to learn to build trust, communicate their wants and needs, and find purpose in their lives. I want to teach others skills to improve wellness, and build meaningful and fulfilling lives.
What I want my patients to know about me:
I have worked in the mental health field for 15 years before getting my Master's in Counseling. I have experience working in foster care and adoptions, and was an adoptive and foster parent myself. I worked in group homes for intercity adolescents. I supervised, and trained other therapist and staff. I also did in home therapy with children, adolescents, families, and adults of all ages prior to settling into outpatient therapy. I love growing people! I work with all ages and do individual, group, and family therapy for mood disorders, anxiety, relationship problems, trauma, ADHD, behavioral problems, personality disorders, grief and loss, life transitions, aging, chronic pain and illness, and personal growth. I specialize in adults and adolescents with childhood trauma as well as postpartum depression and anxiety. My favorite thing to do is to help the helpers recover from compassion fatigue and burnout.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
Between my husband and I, we have 10 children and 10 grandchildren. Most of our free time is spent enjoying and caring for them. I love cooking and organizing family gatherings. Disco and 80's music are my favorite... you'd often catch me dancing. We recently adopted a Giant Schnauzer puppy who requires much attention and training, but brings us daily laughs, lots of exercise, and affection.
