Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:
I enjoy working with people, and throughout life I experienced a natural inclination to help people. The desire for human connection as well as an inquisitive mind that enjoys solving problems drew me to a career in medicine. It is a good path that would fullfill a calling to help others. Working emergency medicine was my goal because I prefer to see the acute side of medicine like dealing with injuries and recent onset illness. I feel that I can be most helpful following the unfortunate accidents of life and sickness, regardless of how small or large.
What I want my patients to know about me:
I feel comfortable and at home working in the emergency department, as I have been at Gettysburg for several years now. There is the invariable ebb and flow of patients coming into the emergency department. Regardless of the circumstances, I strive to provide excellence in care in as timely a manner as possible with the help of nurses and support staff who are of invaluable assistance. I spend as much time as needed with patients to make sure they fully understand their workup and treatment plan as well as whom they should follow up with.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
One of the benefits of working in the Emergency Department is the ability to unplug on days I am off, with full confidence of my colleagues coverage. I enjoy activities in the outdoors, from hiking and swimming in the summer to snowboarding and skiing in the winter. I have quite a few hobbies with my main interest in woodworking. I also have recently taken up to aerial photography and videography. As a "people person" I cherish time with my friends, and we frequently play all types of yard games, board games or socialize over a card game or the occasional TV series.
