Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:
When I was in high school I was told girls from my county never make it into medical school. Then I met two biology teachers who told me to pursue my dreams. They instilled in me a love for biology and how living things worked. So at UMBC I was hooked on genetics, cell biology and started to understand how exciting medicine could be. Growing up in a rural community, the only doctor I knew was a general practice physician. Specialists had no meaning to me at the time. So I pursued Family Medicine and have never looked back. What an exciting career medicine can be when everyday is different and every patient holds a story and sometimes a mystery to unfold.
What I want my patients to know about me:
I have practiced Family Medicine for over 30 years. To me the patient-physician relationship is most important and how I can help unravel the physical and sometimes the emotional concerns a patient is feeling. I love to teach people how the body works and what happens to expect. I enjoy interpreting the medical jargon to help patients understand their choices and obstacles in health care. I also like to teach younger doctors which is why I am in a teaching hospital in Family Medicine. Office procedures give me energy and diagnostic challenges are like good mysteries.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
I love to read mysteries especially if that involves a beach. I am a dog lover. I love to take pictures of people, places and things. Traveling is exciting and an adventure I am always up for doing.
