Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:
In high school, I initially wanted to become an interpreter at the United Nations. While volunteering at a local hospital as a candy striper, I became fascinated by the challenge of a medical career and changed my plans. I recall being told by one surgeon that women could certainly do many things in medicine, such as radiology or pediatrics, but of course not surgery. At that time, I was not offended, merely curious, and now laugh about it since surgery is what I ultimately chose to do. During medical school, I found myself attracted to the rapid decision making and technical skill necessary in a surgical career.
What I want my patients to know about me:
With regard to an office visit, I enjoy explaining, teaching and helping patients make educated decisions about their care.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
In general, I love to travel and see new places and experience new cultures.
