Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:
I always knew I wanted a career helping others, and for a time I thought I might become a teacher since I especially enjoyed math and science in school. After some volunteer experiences in high school and college, I realized I could combine helping and teaching others in a career in medicine. I love working with all ages, so family medicine was the right field for me. I even get to teach a little with the residents and students at WellSpan York Hospital.
What I want my patients to know about me:
I want to make sure that my patients understand as much as possible about their medical problems to allow them to participate in maintaining their health. I try to answer questions in a way that is easy to understand to allow patients make good choices with their diet, exercise, and health going forward. I expect my patients to try to do what they can to improve their health, as well, since I am not able to go home with each of them to coach them day-to-day. (I joke that they didn't give me a magic wand when I graduated medical school so I really need their help too!)
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
I like to work in the yard when it's warm. I try to stay inside whenever it's cold and enjoy baking (cookies especially, which I like to give away) and doing cross stitch and quilting. In the fall, my husband and I get to most of the home Penn State games since our son is in the Blue Band. Go Lions!
