Care for Active IndividualssubHeadH2 accessibility
If you’re an athlete who has ever experienced an injury, you know that getting back to your optimal performance level isn’t easy. Having a primary care doctor who understands the unique challenges and goals that athletes (from professional to weekend warriors) experience is important. With the WellSpan team by your side, you’ll have the support you need to return to health—and to the action—as quickly as possible.
Our board-certified physicians are experts in diagnosing and treating a broad range of sports injuries and common conditions. Whatever your particular injury or condition, we start by asking a simple question: What is your goal, both on and off the field? From there we create a treatment plan that puts those goals within reach.
As a WellSpan patient, you’ll have access to an entire network of caregivers—physicians, physical therapists, and more. Everyone involved in your care shares the same objective: to help you get well, regain your fitness and perform at your best.

How We Can Help
Urgent Orthopedic Walk-in Injury Care
Sudden orthopedic injuries require immediate attention. Our dedicated orthopedic providers focus solely on orthopedic and sports medicine emergencies. Our physicians can treat anything from a rolled ankle to a broken leg onsite.
Cardiopulmonary Treadmill Stress Testing
This test measures the amount of oxygen you breathe in and the amount of carbon dioxide you exhale—a process called gas exchange--while running on a treadmill. It also monitors your cardiac activity. With this information your doctor will have a clearer idea of your baseline fitness and adjust your exercise regimen accordingly.
Plasma-Rich Injections
Platelets are components in the blood that play an important role in clotting. Researchers have found that platelets also contain proteins that can help heal orthopedic injuries. By injecting blood plasma rich with platelets into the area of your injury, your WellSpan physician may be able to speed your recovery.
Tenex
This minimally invasive technology is used to treat tendonitis in the elbow, hip, knee, ankle, and plantar fasciitis pain in the foot. It is proven to improve overall functionality and decrease pain significantly. Tenex removes the source of pain, which is the damaged tissue, and helps stimulate a renewed healing response.
Ultrasound Guided Injections
Ultrasonography is used to guide pain management injections. This guidance increases the accuracy of the injection and the effectiveness of reducing pain.
Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT)
OMT moves muscles and joints with stretching, gentle pressure and resistance. This treatment helps ease pain and increase mobility and flexibility. It has shown to benefit many individuals, including those with injuries, asthma, sinus disorders, carpal tunnel syndrome and more.
Injury Prevention Program
WellSpan Sports Medicine offers an injury prevention program designed just for athletes. This program helps athletes reduce their risk of injury, strengthen muscles and enhance their overall athletic performance. Athletes receive a customized training session with a certified athletic trainer. Then, the athletes and trainers – along with coaches and parents – will create a plan to help the athlete reach their potential and avoid further injury.
