Our highly trained stroke team delivers leading-edge, comprehensive stroke care to patients in our communities across five counties at WellSpan acute care hospitals. Stroke care services include primary prevention of stroke, post-stroke secondary prevention, and follow-up care and rehabilitation. WellSpan's team of neurologists, neurosurgeons, advanced practice clinicians, nurses, therapists and other clinical staff provides state-of-the-science stroke care that allows you to stay in your home community.
If you need advanced surgical or neuroendovasculoar stroke care, you can transfer from your local WellSpan Primary Stroke Center to the Comprehensive Stroke Center at WellSpan York Hospital and stay within the WellSpan Health system. Staying within WellSpan provides you with continuity of care and peace-of-mind knowing your WellSpan stroke providers are in close communication to coordinate your best care.

How We Can Help
Advanced Care and Intervention
Our team is highly experienced in caring for patients who have suffered a stroke and who have conditions that could lead to a stroke in the future. We can provide a wide-range of medical therapies, including the life-saving, clot-busting medication called tPA, short for tissue plasminogen activator. When delivered early in a ischemic stroke, this medication breaks up the clot causing the stroke, restoring blood flow to the brain.
Neuro-Endovascular Services
If you’ve suffered a stroke, we are able to offer advanced care in the form of aneurysmal repair after an aneurysm rupture, as well as elective aneurysm repair surgery. We also offer the following services:
- Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM) embolization and resection
- Carotid endarterectomy
- Carotid stenting
- Craniotomy for cerebral hematoma evacuation
- Intraarterial altaplace for large vessel occlusion
- Intracerebral aneurysm clipping

Follow-Up Care and Rehabilitation
Our neurohospitalists and advanced practice clinicians work strictly in the hospital setting to care for stroke patients. As part of their hospital stay, each stroke patient will undergo evaluations and treatment by physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. If needed, you will continue to receive these services on an outpatient basis after hospital discharge.
Treatment for Arteriovenous Malformations (AVMs)
We provide treatment for AVMs, including intracerebral repair.
