How We Can Help
Customized Pain Evaluation
Our team works with you and your primary care provider to create an individualized treatment plan that may include injections, medications, physical therapy (land-based and/or aquatic), massage therapy, chiropractic therapy or cognitive-behavioral therapy.
If you’re in pain, we understand that the first thing on your mind is getting relief. At the same time, you’re likely concerned about long-term dependence on pain medication. We focus on getting our patients away from dependence on long-term pain medications through the use of complementary treatments, such as massage, nutrition, acupuncture and yoga.
Injections
When needed, we administer injections directly to the affected muscle to help overactive and strained muscles and spastic muscles. Injections can also help to relieve arthritic pain in joints and throughout the spine.
Radiofrequency Ablation
We offer this therapy for individuals with arthritic pain in the spine. If your arthritis is advanced and steroid medication is no longer providing relief, radiofrequency ablation may be an option to help control your pain. This therapy uses needles and X-ray guidance to cauterize (burn) the nerves that send pain signals to the brain, and can provide up to two years of pain relief. The treatment can be repeated, as needed.
Spinal Cord Stimulation
We offer spinal cord stimulation – also known as neuromodulation – for those with pain in the low back, leg, arm and/or neck. Spinal cord stimulation is a way of intercepting pain signals before they reach the brain. In some cases, individuals undergo surgery for these types of pain and experience relief for a period of years. After that, scar tissue develops and causes pain that oftentimes does not respond to steroids or other injections. Sometimes, spinal cord stimulation can help relieve pain in these situations. The use of this pain relief technique has been shown to significantly help reduce opioid use.
Therapy Groups
Led by WellSpan clinical psychologists, our therapy groups use cognitive-behavioral techniques to help patients deal with psychological and emotional causes and effects of long-term pain.
