American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet® recognition
The WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Hospital (WSRH) received its first Magnet® recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in March 2020. The Magnet Recognition Program®, the largest and most prominent nurses credentialing organization in the world, is the highest honor for nursing excellence and provides consumers with the ultimate benchmark for high-quality care. Approximately, only 475 of over 6,300 United States hospitals have achieved Magnet® status. The honor of Magnet® status reinforces the WSRH dedicated mission in providing exceptional orthopedic, spine and acute rehabilitative care in a healing environment. WellSpan Surgery & Rehabilitation Hospital has met or exceeded the criteria to be designated a high performing provider for 2021-2022 in the treatment of Back Surgery (Spinal Fusion). The annual Best Hospitals ranking evaluated more than 4,750 medical centers nationwide in 15 specialties and 17 procedures and conditions. Founded in 1966 as the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities and now known as CARF International, the accrediting body establishes consumer-focused standards to help organizations measure and improve the quality of their programs and services. CARF accreditation is considered the gold standard for rehabilitation hospitals and demonstrates that a facility meets rigorous national and international standards for quality patient care outcomes. WellSpan Surgery & Rehabilitation Hospital was first accredited in the fall of 2012, the year the hospital opened.
Since 2012 the hospital has been awarded specialty accreditation through 2021 for the following adult rehabilitation programs:
- Amputation Specialty
- Brain Injury Specialty
- Comprehensive Integrated Inpatient Rehabilitation
- Spinal Cord Specialty
- Stroke Specialty
These achievements make WellSpan Surgery & Rehabilitation Hospital one of only eight in the mid-Atlantic region to earn all five accreditations, and the only hospital in south-central Pennsylvania with that distinction. These accreditations represent the highest level that can be awarded by CARF to an organization and are marks of excellence for programs’ quality of care.
Det Norske Veritas – Germanischer Lloyd (DNV-GL)
WellSpan Surgery & Rehabilitation Hospital received a three-year accreditation from DNV-GL in 2017. The hospital is one of only five in Pennsylvania to achieve DNV-GL accreditation. DNV-GL is the only accreditor of United States hospitals integrating the ISO 9001 Quality Management System with the Medicare Conditions of Participation. As part of accreditation, DNV-GL requires compliance with all ISO 9001 standards.
In 2018, WSRH received ISO 9001 certification.
WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Hospital has been recognized by Press Ganey, a leading health analytics firm, for outstanding performance in patient experience. In 2019 the hospital was awarded with the Pinnacle of Excellence Award and Guardian of Excellence Award. The Guardian of Excellence Award has been earned four years straight.
Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services
WellSpan Surgery & Rehabilitation Hospital has been awarded 5 stars for patient experience by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid services. As of 2019, there are only 11 hospitals with the same recognition in the state of Pennsylvania.
