Leapfrog A Grade Designation

The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization driving a movement for giant leaps forward in the quality and safety of American health care. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade assigns letter grades to hospitals based on their record of patient safety, helping consumers protect themselves and their families from errors, injuries, accidents, and infections. WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital has earned the designation of an 'A' grade.

CMS 5 Star Overall Hospital Quality Rating

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) have ranked WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital as 5 Stars for Overall Hospital Quality. The overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings apply across the country based on each hospitals performance across five quality categories including: mortality, safety or care, readmission, patient experience and timely and effective care.

HAP Excellence in Patient Safety

In 2023, the Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) recognized WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital as a top performing hospital for ensuring Excellence in Patient Safety. HAP’s Excellence in Patient Safety Recognition program honors Pennsylvania's top-performing hospitals, using data from the CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network.

High Performing by U.S. News and World Report

WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital has met or exceeded the criteria to be designated a high performing provider for 2022-2023 in the treatment of COPD, Heart Attack, Heart Failure, and Stroke. The annual Best Hospitals ranking evaluated more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide in 15 specialties and 20 procedures and conditions. Rankings are largely based on objective measures like volume, discharge-to-home rates and quality of nursing.

In addition, U.S. News & World Report has named WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital as 2022-2023 High Performing hospital for Maternity Care (Uncomplicated Pregnancy). This is the highest award a hospital can earn for U.S. News’ Best Hospitals for Maternity Care.

For 2023, WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital received the following Healthgrades Specialty Excellence Award:

Money Best Maternity Hospital

In 2022, Money, a personal finance website, partnered with The Leapfrog Group to develop the first Best Maternity Hospital ranking. WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital was ranked among the best maternity hospitals in America, according to Money. Money and The Leapfrog Group used maternity care data from the 2022 Leapfrog Hospital Survey to compile the list of best hospitals. To qualify for the list, eligible hospitals were required to carry an "A" or "B" letter grade on the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade assessment for spring 2022 and meet criteria specific to providing maternity care.

Get With The Guidelines

WellSpan Good Samaritan Community Hospital has achieved the following from the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association’s Get with the Guidelines (GWTG) awards:

  • Heart Failure Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award and recognized on the Target: Heart Failure and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll.
  • Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award and recognized on the Target: Stroke Elite Honor Roll.

The GWTG awards recognize the hospital meeting specific quality achievement measures for the diagnosis and treatment of stroke and heart-care-related patients.

Gold Level Safe Sleep Facility

WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital is recognized as a Gold Level Safe Sleep facility for its commitment to best practices and education on infant safe sleep. As a nationally certified Safe Sleep Hospital, the hospital is recognized by Cribs for Kids for following the safe sleep guidelines recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics and for providing training programs for healthcare team members and family caregivers.

Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center

WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital has been recognized for delivering high-quality, effective and cost-efficient specialty care by Blue Cross Blue Shield. Meeting specific quality standards has provided the hospital with the opportunity to become a Blue Distinction Center+ for Maternity Care and Cardiac Care.

Det Norske Veritas – Germanischer Lloyd Accreditation

WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital was certified with a three-year accreditation from DNV-GL in 2020. The hospital is certified for primary stroke.

QOPI Certification for Cancer Care

Good Samaritan Oncology & Hematology Associates has been recognized by the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI) Certification Program, an affiliate of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). The QOPI Certification Program provides a three-year certification for outpatient hematology-oncology practices that meet the highest standards for quality cancer care.

Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programs Certification

Good Samaritan's Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation programs have been certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). This certification recognizes Good Samaritan’s commitment to improving the quality of life for patients by enhancing standards of care in these rehabilitation programs. Good Samaritan is one of only a few health systems in Central Pennsylvania to offer both cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation programs certified by AACVPR.

Keystone 10 Facility

WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital is designated as a Keystone 10 facility, for implementing evidence-based maternity care practices to help improve breastfeeding care and rates, as well as improving the health of new mothers and babies. Keystone 10, administered by the Pa. Department of Health and the Pa. Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, is a quality improvement breastfeeding initiative that began in 2014. It is aimed at improving the protection, promotion, and support of breastfeeding for all Pennsylvania infants, mothers and families.
