WellSpan Health's commitment to advancing an inclusive workplace has been recognized for the second year in a row by Newsweek.  Named as one of America's Greatest Workplaces for Diversity for 2024, WellSpan is focused on fostering diversity, equity and inclusion and creating an environment where all feel welcomed, respected and valued.

We honor the diversity of our team members, patients and neighbors and embrace all the qualities that make us similar and unique," said Aaron Gillingham, senior vice president and chief people officer, WellSpan Health.

WellSpan's comprehensive strategy includes recruitment, community engagement and ongoing employee education and training.

Earlier this year, WellSpan's Inclusion Champion program was honored by Training Magazine's "Training Apex Awards." The program, which trained team members to actively serve as allies and promoters of equity for each other and patients, was one of five "Outstanding Training Initiative Awards" presented by the group. Nearly 150 WellSpan team members graduated from the first offering of the program in 2022 and another 175 are on target to graduate by February of 2024.

"We're honored to be recognized on this important list as it signifies that we are on the right track, and we remain dedicated to continuous improvement," said Kim Brister, vice president and chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer, WellSpan Health. "We know there's more to be done and this serves as fuel for our ongoing work to create a culture of belonging and set us apart as a place where people want to work and receive care."

Brister's leadership as chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer has also been recognized for being a changemaker in WellSpan's local communities. And planning efforts are underway for WellSpan's second annual Black Men In White Coats Youth Summit designed to inspire youth to consider medical careers with the long-term goal of improving today's racially disproportionate medical workforce. The Summit will be held on May 18 at York College of Pennsylvania and will offer students in grades 6-12 a full day of healthcare career exploration. Registration opens on Feb. 19.
