Outstanding quality & safety metrics earn WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital national recognition

WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital has been named a 2023 Top General Hospital by The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization of employers and other purchasers widely acknowledged as the toughest standard-setter for health care quality and safety. This is the second consecutive year that WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital has received this elite recognition.

"This recognition highlights our team's commitment to the excellence of quality, safety, and patient care that we strive for every day at WellSpan Health," said Michael Cogliano Sr., vice president, WellSpan Health and president, WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital. "We take every precaution and make every effort to keep our patients safe. Our systems and practices are constantly evolving to ensure our quality of care is the best in the nation."

The Leapfrog Group awards the annual recognition to the highest performing hospitals – crediting a facility's integration of systems focused on establishing clinical quality excellence for maternity care, lowering infection rates, and preventing medication errors, among other quality improvements.

To qualify for the Top Hospitals distinction, hospitals must rank highly among peers on the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, which assesses hospital performance on the highest standards for quality and patient safety.

Hospitals must also have received an "A" in the most recent Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades in order to be eligible for the Top Hospital designation. In the fall 2023 rankings, WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital, WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital, WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital, and WellSpan Waynesboro Hospital all received "A" safety grades.
