With a provider's order, WellSpan Health provides COVID-19 test collection to the following patient groups:
- Patients who are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms
- Patients who have been exposed to a person who tested positive for COVID-19
- Patients who have an upcoming procedure or surgery
- People with special circumstances such as travel requirements or school/employer related requirements
We ask that you do not go to a hospital emergency department for a COVID-19 test collection, unless you are experiencing life-threatening symptoms.
Having a MyWellSpan patient portal account is important for people having a COVID-19 test collection. This will allow you to receive your test results as soon as they are available. Currently, results of test collections are available within 1-2 days.
If you do not have a MyWellSpan account, you will be contacted directly by WellSpan. However, the quickest reporting of results will be available through your MyWellSpan account.
Test Collection for People with Symptoms (Provider Order Required)
Patients who are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms may:
- Call your primary care provider. Your provider's office can provide a test collection or offer guidance on what test collection option is best suited for you.
- If you do not have a primary care provider and believe you need medical treatment for COVID-19, we recommend that you consider a WellSpan Virtual On Demand Care appointment or call WellSpan's Information hotline toll-free at (855) 851-3641. The information hotline is open daily from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- Visit a WellSpan Urgent Care location.
Test Collection for People Exposed (Provider Order Required)
Patients who may have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, but are not experiencing any symptoms (asymptomatic) may:
- Call your WellSpan physician office for guidance on the need for testing and what test collection option is best suited for you.
- If you do not have a WellSpan provider and believe you may need a test collection for COVID-19, consider a WellSpan Virtual On Demand Care appointment or call WellSpan's Information hotline toll-free at (855) 851-3641. The information hotline is open daily from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- Visit a WellSpan Lab location or a WellSpan Urgent Care.
Test Collection for Pre-Procedure Patients (Provider Order Required)
Patients who need a COVID-19 test collection order 2-5 days prior to a scheduled procedure or surgery should:
- Receive a test collection order prior to their scheduled procedure date from their WellSpan physician office or WellSpan's pre-surgical assessment outreach.
- If a patient does not receive a provider's order, the patient should call their care provider. The patient’s provider can provide a test collection order and offer guidance on the test collection location best suited for them.
- Obtain a pre-procedure test collection for COVID-19 by visiting a WellSpan Lab location or WellSpan Urgent Care 2-5 days prior to the scheduled procedure.
Test Collection for Special Community Circumstances (Provider Order Required)
Patients who need a COVID-19 test collection provider order for circumstances that include travel, employer, or school-related test requirement may:
- Call your WellSpan physician office for guidance on the test collection option best suited for you.
