WellSpan Health announces new board of directors members and leadership

New board members headline WellSpan’s system and regional board changes for the new year. Jennifer Craighead Carey and Suzanne McConkey have joined the system board that continues to be chaired by Joe Crosswhite and vice chaired by Richard Broadbent in the new year. Others, listed below, have joined WellSpan’s regional boards, including a new chair and vice chair in WellSpan’s east region.

 

“As the region’s only locally governed health system, these new community board members will bring expertise and vital insights as WellSpan continues its journey to deliver innovative, exceptional health care across Central Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland,” said Joe Crosswhite, Chair of the WellSpan Board of Directors. “I’m looking forward to our system board working collectively with our regional boards to advance WellSpan’s mission ensuring it remains the best place to give and receive care.”

 

The WellSpan Health Board of Directors is a governing board with members who are elected to 3-year terms, with officer terms lasting one year. Changes to the 2025 board include:

 

New board member: Jennifer Craighead Carey, Managing Partner & CEO, Barley Snyder

 

Craighead Carey serves as both a managing partner and chief executive officer of the Barley Snyder law firm, guiding the firm’s overall strategy and growth. She has been recognized by Best Lawyers as one of the Best Lawyers in America in the ‘Litigation – Labor and Employment’ category for 2026.

She is a graduate of Leadership Lancaster, and is active in the community, serving on numerous boards including the Fulton Financial Corporation, the High Holdings Corporation and the Lancaster City Alliance. She also is the former board chair of the United Way of Lancaster County.

New board member: Suzanne McConkey, former vice president of human resources, Glatfelter Insurance Group

 

McConkey served most recently as the vice president of human resources for leading organizations in the region, including Glatfelter Insurance Group, and prior to that PACE Resources Inc. She currently is an administrator of the Arthur J. Glatfelter Fire & Emergency Services Scholarship Foundation.

 

She is active in the community, serving as a board member for the York County Community Foundation and Byrnes Health Education Center as well as a trustee of the Powder Mill Foundation. McConkey also previously served as a board member for WellSpan’s central region.

In addition to the new system board members, the following changes are now in effect with WellSpan’s regional boards.

 

 

WellSpan Health East Region Board of Directors:

 

New board chair and vice chair appointments encompass the changes to the WellSpan Health East Region Board of Directors for 2026. Carrie Evans Wilson, who previously held the position of vice chair in 2025, has been named the new board chair. Kim Kreider Umble has assumed the role of vice chair. In addition to the new leadership roles, Kim McDevitt and Alison Pidgeon have joined the board as new members.

 

The WellSpan East Region Board of Directors is a volunteer governing board serving WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital, WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital and WellSpan Philhaven. Members are elected to three-year terms, with officer terms lasting one year.

 

New board chair: Carrie Evans Wilson, Partner & Chair, Montgomery McCracken Walker & Rhoads

 

Evans Wilson holds the position of partner and chair of the Higher Education Group of the law firm Montgomery McCracken Walker & Rhoads in Philadelphia. She has a storied legal career including the role of judicial clerk in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. She is a member of the Pennsylvania and Lancaster County Bar Associations.

New board vice chair: Kim Kreider Umble, President & CEO, Lebanon Family Health Services

 

Kreider Umble has served for nearly 40 years as the president and CEO of Lebanon Family Health Services. She has served on the WellSpan Health East Region Board of Directors since 2021 and was previously a member of the WellSpan Philhaven Board of Directors.

New board member: Kim McDevitt, Executive Director, Mental Health America of Lancaster County

 

McDevitt currently holds the title of executive director for Mental Health America of Lancaster County. She has extensive experience with non-profit organizations, having previously held roles at the Lancaster Housing Opportunities Partnership as well as the Power Packs Project. She is a graduate of Leadership Lancaster and sits on the executive board of the Mental Health Association of Pennsylvania, among others.

New board member: Alison Pidgeon, Founder & CEO, Move Forward Counseling, LLC

 

Pidgeon is the founder and CEO of Move Forward Counseling, LLC in Lancaster. She has had a storied career in therapy and counseling, including time with WellSpan Philhaven. She has advocated for and helped shape policy within the mental health and wellness sectors as part of a commitment to advancing access to quality mental health care.

WellSpan Health Central Region Board of Directors:

 

In WellSpan’s central region, Pat Brubaker and Kelley Gibson have joined the board.

 

The WellSpan Central Region Board of Directors is a volunteer governing board serving WellSpan York Hospital and WellSpan Surgery & Rehabilitation Hospital. Members are elected to three-year terms, with officer terms lasting one year.

 

New board member: Pat Brubaker, Principal, Hammer Creek Enterprises, LLC.

 

Brubaker currently serves as the principal of corporate finance services and the investment firm at Hammer Creek Enterprises, LLC in York, Pa. He served in roles at private equity investment firms in Boston, Mass., earlier in his career. He currently serves on the York County Community Foundation and the York Health Foundation boards and Family First Health Finance Committee.

New board member: Kelley Gibson, President, Cultural Alliance of York County

 

Gibson is the president of the Cultural Alliance of York County. She previously served as an adjunct professor at the York College of Pennsylvania, and in marketing and public relations roles earlier in her career. She is a member of the Americans for the Arts and the United Arts Fund Association. She serves as board chair for Citizens for the Arts in Pennsylvania and board director and president elect nominee for the Rotary Club of York.

WellSpan Health West Region Board of Directors:

 

Three new board member appointments headline changes to the WellSpan West Region Board of Directors. Adam Donius, Mindy Guinard and Tim Henry have joined the board.

 

The WellSpan West Region Board of Directors is a volunteer governing board serving WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital, WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital and WellSpan Waynesboro Hospital. Members are elected to three-year terms, with officer terms lasting one year.

 

New board member: Adam Donius, Owner & Operator, Chick-fil-A – Chambersburg

 

Donius is the owner and operator of Chick-fil-A – Chambersburg, with previous similar roles at Chick-fil-A locations in Coralville, Iowa and Hagerstown, Md. He also served as a loan officer for Fulton Financial Corporation earlier in his career. He is the incoming chair of the Greater Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce and serves as vice chair of the Cumberland Valley Business Alliance as well as the Hospice of Washington County. He also serves as secretary and treasurer of Otterbein Ministries, Inc. in Waynesboro.


 

New board member: Mindy Guinard, Program Director, Division of Nursing and Health Sciences, Nursing Programs and Health Science and Exercise Science Programs, Wilson College

 

Guinard currently serves as program director at Wilson College in the division of nursing and health sciences, as well as for nursing programs and health science and exercise science programs. She has held several roles throughout her career in nursing, including faculty roles at the PA College of Health Science in Lancaster. She is a sitting member of the Healthy Franklin County, Nutritional and Physical activity task force, as well as volunteer work in the local school district.

New board member: Tim Henry, retired, President & CEO, Frankin Financial Services Corporation

 

Henry recently retired from his role as president and CEO of Franklin Financial Services Corporation following a 42-year career in financial services, with extensive experience in commercial lending, loan workout and retail management, among other skills. He has served on the board of directors for the Chambersburg Area Development Corporation and the Cumberland Valley Redevelopment Corporation. He also currently sits on the board of directors for the Maryland Theatre, is a member of the Greater Hagerstown Committee and is an incoming board member to the Hagerstown/Washington County Museum of Fine Arts.
