WellSpan VNA is the first skilled home care agency in York and Adams County to launch its commitment to become a dementia-friendly business through Dementia Friendly PA — and the first entity within WellSpan to launch this effort.

Our team has initiated specialized training to better understand dementia and its many forms. This includes:

• Dementia-specific communication and care techniques that foster trust and reduce anxiety.
• Personalized care plans tailored to each patient’s unique needs, preferences, and dignity.
• Thoughtfully designed physical environments that minimize confusion, enhance safety, and reduce discomfort.

According to the National Institutes of Health, more than six million Americans are living with dementia. That is approximately one in ten adults, with prevalence rising to one in five among those aged 85 and older. These numbers are more than statistics; they are a call to action.

This achievement marks a significant milestone in our journey to sharpen our knowledge, skills, and compassion, supporting community members and their families as they live life to the fullest while managing dementia.
