Leapfrog Quality Measures

In This Section

At WellSpan Health, the safety and health of our patients is our No. 1 priority.

From our operating rooms to our housekeeping carts, our doctors, clinicians and staff are working to prevent infections, injuries and errors. From the way we clean your hospital room, to the way we count surgical instruments, to the way we order and administer your medications, to the way we train and schedule our care teams, we are working every day to keep you safe. We recognize it is a critical part of providing the best care to every patient.

How well do we do at this job?

Leapfrog, an independent, national watchdog organization used by employers and other purchasers of health care, has devised a grading system, which assigns grades of A to F to thousands of hospitals across the country. The nonprofit organization bases these grades on 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data.

The grades take into consideration a variety of measures such as how many infections our patients acquire, how often our surgical patients develop breathing problems or blood clots, how often our patients develop dangerous bed sores, how well our staff communicates with each other, and whether we are doing something as simple, and as important, as washing our hands.

Awards & Recognitions

Five of our hospitals have earned the top grade of an A for their performance:

WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital earned a B and are continuing to show significant improvement in the quality and safety of care, with the goal of achieving an A grade in the future.
