Engaging Volunteers to Support our Efforts

With a focus on patient experience, over 3,800 WellSpan Volunteers contributed a total of 74,000 hours in fiscal year 2023 to support WellSpan initiatives in a variety of assignments within departments, hospitals, and non-hospital locations throughout the system.

Volunteers assisted with WellSpan community and staff events, including our Martin Luther King service project, Black Men in White Coats event, Children’s Wellness Day events, Lego collection to support Byrnes Health Education Center, and staff appreciation events.

Throughout WellSpan, 59 pet therapy volunteers providing cuddles and comfort to patients, staff and visitors.

Experience as a WellSpan volunteer continues to inform career decisions. Twenty-six high school and college students with interest in healthcare careers participated in our summer program. Serving with WellSpan teams and assisting patients helps guide and reinforce their decisions to pursue a healthcare career.
