Thigh Lift

Reveal smoother thighs, beautifully

What is a thigh lift?

If you have been considering a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of your thighs, a thigh lift—also knows as thighplasty—may be the right treatment option for you. A thigh lift procedure reshapes your thighs by reducing excess skin and fat. It generallyinvolves the inner (medial) thigh region, requiring an incision in the groin and inner thigh.

Who is a candidate for a thigh lift?

Candidates for a thigh lift are generally healthy, don't smoke and have realistic goals for what a thigh lift surgery can accomplish. Additional factors include:

  • You have been at a stable goal weight for at least six months
  • You have excess soft tissue along the inner (medial) thigh region You are generally healthy with no medical conditions that impair healing or increase the risk of surgery
  • You have realistic goals for what thigh lift surgery can accomplish
  • You are committed to a healthy lifestyle, including proper nutrition and fitness
  • Your fitness and weight-control efforts have not achieved your goals for a body that is firmer or more proportionate

If you meet these criteria, you may be a good candidate for a thigh lift. However, it is important to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon to discuss your individual needs and goals.

What to expect when getting a thigh lift

Before your procedure

  • You may require lab testing or medical evaluation
  • You may take prescribed medications or adjust your current medications
  • You will need to stop smoking
  • You will need to stop taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, herbal supplements or other medications that increase bleeding
  • You will need to arrange for someone to drive you to and from surgery and stay with you for at least the first night after surgery.

During your procedure

  • You will receive medication for your comfort during the procedure
  • Your surgeon will make one or more incisions based on the area to be treated and correction necessary
  • A thigh lift typically takes 2–3 hours

After your procedure

  • Smoother, tighter contouring results are almost immediately apparent, though swelling and bruising appears first
  • Dressings/bandages may be applied to your incisions
  • Small, thin tubes may be temporarily placed under the skin to drain excess fluid or blood
  • You may be prescribed medications to apply or take orally to aid healing
  • Surgical incisions should not be subjected to excessive force, swelling, abrasion or motion during the healing time
  • Your surgeon will discuss when to schedule your follow-up appointment with you

Benefits of a thigh lift

A thigh lift offers physical, medical and mental/emotional benefits. It is a treatment option for those who have been at a stable goal weight for at least six months with excess soft tissue along their thighs. Additional benefits of this procedure include:

  • Improved appearance. Thigh lift surgery can help you achieve smoother skin and better-portioned contours of the thighs and lower body. This can boost your confidence and self-esteem.
  • Enhanced comfort. By removing excess skin and fat, a thigh lift can help reduce chafing and irritation in the thigh area, making it more comfortable to walk, sit and exercise.
  • Long-lasting results. The results of a thigh lift are typically long-lasting, allowing you to enjoy the benefits of your improved appearance for years to come.
