A mommy makeover focuses on physical changes from pregnancy and breastfeeding through a combination of surgeries. You and your plastic surgeon will work together to craft a personalized plan for your needs. Options include breast augmentation, breast lift (with or without implants), breast reduction, full or mini tummy tuck, and liposuction.

What to expect when getting a mommy makeover

Before your mommy makeover

• Be prepared to take certain medications or adjust your current medications.
• If you smoke, you'll need to stop.
• Avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements, as they can increase bleeding.

During your mommy makeover

• The procedure takes between three and five hours.
• You'll be asleep during surgery (general anesthesia).

After your mommy makeover

• Gauze or bandages will be applied to your incisions.
• Expect to wear an elastic bandage or support bra to minimize swelling and support your breasts.
• You may also have a compression garment to control swelling in your abdomen, waist and buttocks.
• Your surgeon will prescribe medication for pain management and will give instructions for proper cleaning and care.
• When you go home, if you experience shortness of breath, chest pains or unusual heartbeats, seek medical attention immediately.
• You'll continue healing for several weeks (swelling will slowly decrease as the shape of your treated areas improves).
• Avoid excessive force, abrasion or motion while you're healing.
• Over time, your implants will settle and scar lines will improve, but they won't completely disappear.
• We'll schedule follow-up visits along the way to track your progress.
• Expect to not see final results until several months after your surgery even though there will be an immediate significant improvement.
