What is a forehead lift?

What to expect with a forehead lift

Before your procedure

• You might need to take a lab test or have a medical evaluation
• You might be prescribed medications or need to adjust your current medications
• Avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs and other supplements as they can increase bleeding and bruising
• Arrange for a friend or family member to drive you to and from surgery and to stay with you the first night following surgery.

During your procedure

• The surgery typically takes one to three hours
• You'll be given anesthesia
• Your surgery may be done with an endoscope, which makes incisions on and around your forehead
• Bits of your muscles will be snipped away to remove frown lines
• Your brow will be lifted and attached in a higher position
• Your incisions will be closed with stitches (internal and external)

After your procedure

• Your forehead will be taped and/or loosely wrapped to minimize swelling and bruising
• Sometimes blood or fluid collects under your skin, which we'll need to drain
• You should be ready to return to normal activities after 10 to 14 days
• Internal stitches will dissolve in nine months after your muscles and tissue have healed
• External stitches will be removed in seven to 10 days
• Bruising and scars are normal but will be hidden within your hairline
• Results appear within a few weeks as swelling and bruising subside
• Your surgical team will schedule a follow-up appointment and share how to care for yourself during recovery
