The WellSpan Spotlight

South Hall Sky Walk Demo, Traffic Pattern Changes and Increased Noise from Construction

Beginning Monday, February 27, a new traffic pattern will go into effect outside the Emergency Department entrance at WellSpan York Hospital. Safety fencing will be extended into the driving lane for the Emergency Department entrance to allow for demolition work on the sky walk bridge that connected the hospital to South Hall.

The fencing will take away ADA parking spaces and prevent use of the pedestrian sidewalk. New traffic patterns for vehicles and pedestrians will go into effect for the duration of the demolition. The Emergency Department entrance will turn into a one-way traffic loop for dropping off patients, picking up patients or using valet services.

All pedestrian traffic coming from the parking deck must cross West Drive and use a designated walkway along the Ambulance entrance. Pedestrians CANNOT use the one-way circular drive to enter or exit the building.

The entrances along the Century Building will be available as emergency exits only. This is to reduce pedestrian traffic under the construction scaffolding to prevent interruptions in work and potential safety risks.

The fencing is anticipated to remain in place for three weeks before being removed and traffic flow returning to normal.

Also, we want to remind everyone to be mindful of their surroundings when near the construction area. Remain aware of what is taking place around you at all times. The construction team partners go to great lengths to ensure the safety of all patients, team members and visitors on the hospital campus.
