Leapfrog Safety Grades - Spring 2024

As part of its commitment to high-quality care with a focus on safety, WellSpan is honored to achieve five “A” safety grades for spring 2024 from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization of employers and other purchasers.

WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital, WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital, WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital, WellSpan Waynesboro Hospital, and WellSpan York Hospital all received the top rating.

“This recognition was earned because of our commitments to safety and quality, which are the foundations of our vision to be a trusted partner to our patients,” said Dr. Michael Seim, senior vice president and chief quality officer at WellSpan Health. “Our dedication to these core foundations produce real results with improved outcomes systemwide.”

The Leapfrog Group assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country twice a year based on more than 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents injuries, and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.

WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital has been recognized with a "B" grade from the organization.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harms to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public.
