WellSpan Health announces appointment of Aaron Gillingham as senior vice president and chief people officer

WellSpan Health welcomes Aaron Gillingham to the role of senior vice president and chief people officer of the health system. In this role, Gillingham will serve as a key strategic leader focused on accountability for WellSpan's human capital strategy by developing and executing a comprehensive approach to culture, inclusion, and workforce.

Gillingham has more than 25 years of human resources leadership experience, most recently serving as senior vice president and chief human resources officer at UnityPoint Health in Iowa. He also has additional leadership experience in retail and financial services, including Walmart.

"The Chief People Officer role requires a strategic and transformational leader who drives organization-wide change within a complex and rapidly changing environment, and Aaron brings the skills and experience to advance WellSpan's human capital strategy," said Roxanna Gapstur, Ph.D., R.N., President and CEO, WellSpan Health. "We welcome him to our team of 20,000+ strong at a critical crossroads in healthcare, and we are confident he will bring the thoughtfulness needed to navigate the challenges facing the industry."

"WellSpan is a growing force, known across the nation on a number of fronts, from its innovative efforts to prioritize and reimagine workforce solutions to its initiatives focused on diversity, equity and inclusion," said Gillingham. "It's an exciting time to be joining the organization and I look forward to developing close relationships with the team."

Gillingham earned his bachelor's degree at Missouri State University and his Master of Science degree in Human Resource development from Villanova University. He also has completed leadership programs through the Harvard Business School and Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth.

He assumed the leadership role effective Sept. 5. Bob Batory, who previously held a similar role at WellSpan, will be retiring Oct. 1, following a transition period.
