Applicants are screened and evaluated in the same individualized holistic review process at the WellSpan Campus, the North Philadelphia Campus, and the St. Luke’s Campus. A thorough review of each application occurs ,including a review of the academic record, the college attended, MCAT® scores, Casper Test results, recommendations, extracurricular activities, work experience, medically-related experience, and community service activities are used to select candidates for interviews.
While not required, many students have participated in research and/or performance improvement activities. There is no specific academic cutoff for consideration.
The admissions committee has a broad range of qualified candidates who should be admitted. The WellSpan Campus – like the North Philadelphia and St. Luke’s Campuses – seeks a diverse student body with a variety of backgrounds, work and life experiences, and academic majors.
How to Apply
Candidates apply through the American Medical College Application Service® (AMCAS®). The application deadline is December 15 of the year preceding matriculation. Temple University considers applications from U.S. Citizens, or those with permanent resident or refugee/asylee status with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
After receipt of a verified application from AMCAS ®, an automated email from the Office of Admissions is sent to candidates who meet the above criteria with details about how to access the Katz online supplemental application. A candidate’s application is considered complete when the verified AMCAS® application, supplemental application, application fee (if not waived), Casper results, and required letters of recommendation are received.

Interviews
Interviews are held from September through March. The interview day opens with a welcome from an Admissions Office representative who provides an overview of the medical curriculum as well as clinical, service learning and extracurricular opportunities.
Interviews offer us an opportunity to get to know you as an individual – and for you to get to learn more about the WellSpan Campus program. Candidates interviewing at the WellSpan Campus, the North Philadelphia Campus, and the St. Luke’s Campus participate in three interviews. One interview is with a physician or PhD faculty member who is on the Admissions Committee, one is with a faculty member who is blinded to the application materials, and a third interview is with a member of the local community. The interview day also includes a tour of the campus.
Since each applicant brings individual experiences and strengths, there is no “standard interview.” Interviewers explore various dimensions of the applicant, such as interest in medicine, community service, extracurricular activities, medical shadowing and other previous experiences, academic background and performance, research endeavors, and personal and life experiences.
The interview also assesses interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to listen and consider the views of another person. We try to make interviews less stressful, and we believe that a relaxed conversation helps facilitate the interview process.
Early Assurance Program
The Temple University Lewis Katz School of Medicine at WellSpan Health has Early Assurance Agreements with several local colleges and universities. This program allows students to apply during their junior year of college. Successful candidates will receive a conditional acceptant to the WellSpan Campus medical school class matriculating after their graduation. More information will be added to this section very soon.
