WellSpan Health has a vibrant and active clinical research program, with nearly 300 ongoing studies currently. Research at WellSpan is focused in a few key areas – Oncology, Heart and Vascular, Surgery, Trauma, Neurosciences, Emergency Medicine, Orthopedic Surgery – with opportunities available in many other areas.
The research enterprise at WellSpan is concentrated at WellSpan York Hospital, but studies are ongoing in many locations throughout our health system. Students have the opportunity to work with faculty physicians directly during the Faculty-Mentored Scholarly Experience (FMSE) and at any time during the curriculum.
Our faculty includes many highly-accomplished researchers, and we had nearly 200 PubMed ID publications during the past academic year, with publications in many other journals as well.
WellSpan researchers present their studies at a wide variety of meetings and seminars throughout the country. WellSpan Research hosts a monthly Multidisciplinary Research and Education Grand Rounds session and many other education sessions throughout the year.
The Residency and Fellowship Programs also offer opportunities for students to help plan new research studies or join research starting or existing projects. WellSpan Health sponsors our own internal Institutional Review Board (IRB) and our Research program is accredited by the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP). Summer Research experiences for WellSpan Campus medical students will also be available.
