Why I chose to pursue a career in medicine:
For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to help people as well as animals. I guess you could say my heart was always opened to anyone in need. I realized as a young child I was different -- different in a very good way. I personally didn't know how to not help anyone in need of anything. This is how I became a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner. I always wanted to be a veterinarian. I worked in that field for over 18 years. I love animals. They say I have that gift of being an animal whisperer. Given the waiting list to get into veterinarian school was over 5 years, I was lead to the human world of medicine. It was not much of a transition for me, just that people weren't as hairy! People still could bite just like animals (like I said, the transition wasn't all that unfamiliar). I started working in trauma, then to open heart, thoracic and vascular surgery as an RN. While doing this I realized I could be more beneficial as a Nurse Practitioner and that led me to here.
What I want my patients to know about me:
A lot of patients know me from pulmonary/sleep medicine where I had been for over 5 years. I also have a background and degrees in classical piano and graphic/fine arts. I am now in neurology for traumatic brain injuries. Honestly, with all my background I am able to help these patients even more. I even get to practice sleep medicine with these patients which I love. Things always happen for a reason and I was brought to this specialty to help more patients in a most caring and thoughtful way. My patience and listening has helped numerous patients. I am very much appreciated here in this specialty which in turn makes me want to help the patients even more.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
When I am not seeing patients I love to be with my family. I love to take long walks on our property and experience new adventures. I also love the wildlife that lives around me.
