Why I chose to pursue a career in medicine:
Medicine allowed me to combine my interest in caring for people with my interest in the sciences. Surgery brought the opportunity to use technical skills for achieving clinical success. Orthopedic surgery provides the challenges of alleviating pain and improving function in people of all ages. Finally, sports medicine brings every one of these interests together and as a former high school and collegiate athlete, provides the opportunity for me to stay involved in sports while returning injured athletes back to their activity and as safely as possible.
What I want my patients to know about me:
Nearly 30 years ago I joined Hanover Orthopedics as the first fellowship-trained sports medicine orthopedic surgeon in the York and Adams county region, bringing advanced arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery to the area. Over that time, I have been an orthopedic consultant for numerous high schools as well as team physician for Gettysburg College. Joining WellSpan in 2012, I am now part of WellSpan Sports Medicine, which provides comprehensive care to all athletes, from professional to weekend warrior. My expertise is arthroscopic and reconstructive knee and shoulder surgery.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
I enjoy travel and organizing trips with my friends. Golf and landscaping are passions. The Naples/Marco Island area is a frequent destination.
