Why I chose to pursue a career in medicine:
I initially became interested in medicine while spending a year of service in Tanzania after college. I played witness to a severe shortage in medical personnel and supplies while seeing the gratitude people had to receive any care at all. Since then, I have found the field to be intellectually rewarding, while being a great way to serve the community. I am interested in all aspects of medicine, from projects of public health and socioeconomic influences all the way down to interacting one-on-one with individual patients and developing long-term relationships with them.
What I want my patients to know about me:
I enjoy Family Medicine because I get to treat each patient as a whole individual, affected by their environmental surroundings, culture, socioeconomic status, physical, and mental health. It is hard to treat a patient well without knowing how all of these factors impact them, and I do my best at trying to get to know them on a personal level. That keeps the relationship more rewarding and provides for better care and healthier outcomes.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
I enjoy spending time with my friends and family and being outdoors. We have some fruit trees, a garden, and chickens in our backyard, and I especially enjoy the warmer months of the year.
